Rehabilitation Consultations

What does a sports physiotherapist do?

Sports physiotherapy is evolving fast, both in terms of technology, new equipment for treatment, and in terms of research. Currently, artificial intelligence helps physical therapists to make accurate decisions to choose the most effective and fastest procedure for each injury.

When we talk about rehabilitation in sport, the professional needs to think in multiple ways to guide the treatment, there are some basic principles of rehabilitation that need to be respected, such as the 'Principle of Individuality', which defends respecting the characteristics and needs of that individual, and the 'Principle of Specificity, which imposes as an essential point that training must be built on the specific requirements of sports performance.

That is if an MMA fighter has knee pain when kicking, and a CrossFit practitioner feels pain in the same place when doing squats, the sports physiotherapist's view needs to be different for each injury and promote specific treatments for each case, even if dealing with the same region. But not only the treatment of injuries lives the daily life of the sports physiotherapist: the professional also works to prevent them from happening, in addition to improving the athlete's performance.
