Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a Chinese therapy that is based on the insertion of very fine needles into specific parts of the body in order to restore energy flow, as well as promote balance, tranquility, relaxation, and physical well-being. In Eastern culture, it is believed that there is fundamental energy in each person. This energy circulates through meridians, which are major pathways.

Postural changes, emotional problems, as well as unruly habits, unbalance the flow and generate an energy blockage. When energy stagnates or becomes fickle, it results in fatigue, pain, malaise, physical and mental discomfort, organic diseases, as well as other problems. Then there is room for acupuncture. But will the technique really work? And if it works, how many sessions are needed to get good results?

Does acupuncture really have positive effects? Studies reveal that acupuncture positively impacts the cardiovascular system. In addition, it reduces low back pain, produces a feeling of well-being, stimulates relaxation, lowers blood pressure, controls anxiety, and alleviates depression.

It can also be a good adjuvant in restoring immunity and reducing the side effects of cancer treatments. How often should the technique be performed? There is no standard frequency.

There are people who resort to acupuncture occasionally, to treat certain symptoms, but there are also individuals who invest in this therapy on an ongoing basis, to feel more relaxed, in a good mood, and free from pain. It is important to note that acupuncture is not a cure-all technique. It is also not a placebo.

If properly applied, it has the power to improve – in fact – the individual's quality of life. How many sessions do you need? It is not possible to virtually precisely determine how many sessions you need. Each person is unique and, therefore, the number of sessions depends on the particularities of each individual, their general health conditions, symptoms they present, goals, and response to needling.

What we can say is that a single session, although it has good effects, is usually not enough to relieve the strongest pain. The normal course of treatment based on this therapy involves 1 session per week, over 5 or 6 weeks, but there are variations. Therefore, it is best to discuss the duration and frequency of treatment with your trusted therapist. When is it necessary to do more sessions? Treatment usually takes place once a week. However, depending on the complaint, more sessions may be held.

When the person suffers from acute pain, for example, acupuncture sessions take place on alternate days, until the pain is controlled. Thus, the number of sessions gradually reduces, according to the individual's response, going to two sessions per week and reaching up to one session every 15 days.

It is a process that must be conducted with seriousness and responsibility in order to achieve the best results. This takes time.
